Set up NordicTrack / iFIT treadmills for PowerTread

This walkthrough unlocks the treadmill tablet, generates the device access code, installs NordicFTMS, and gets the treadmill advertising itself as a standard FTMS Bluetooth device.

Before you start

  • Keep this page open on your phone while you work on the treadmill.
  • Plan on about 5 minutes once the iFIT dashboard has loaded.
  • When you reach the browser step, use the exact URL shown in Step 4.

Setup Wizard

Follow the steps in order

Use the Continue buttons to jump to the next part of the walkthrough.

1

Load the iFIT dashboard

Start with the treadmill fully booted and sitting on the standard iFIT dashboard before trying the hidden access gesture.

  1. Turn on the treadmill and let the tablet boot normally.
  2. Log in to iFIT if the treadmill asks you to sign in.
  3. Wait until the dashboard finishes loading before moving to the next step.
Helpful note: Stay on the main dashboard screen. If you are inside a workout, back out to the dashboard first.
2

Reveal the six-digit device code

NordicTrack hides the Android access prompt behind a tap gesture on an empty area of the screen.

  1. Find a blank area somewhere in the upper-left corner with no button, icon, or image on top of it.
  2. Tap that exact same spot 10 times.
  3. Wait 7 seconds.
  4. Tap the same spot 10 more times.
  5. A popup should appear showing a six-digit number and asking you to enter a code.
Helpful note: If nothing happens, return to the dashboard and try again on a slightly different blank spot in the upper-left corner.
3

Retrieve the unlock code

Use the six-digit number from the NordicTrack popup below and this page will generate the code you need to type back into the treadmill.

  1. Enter the six-digit number shown on the treadmill into the box below.
  2. Select Retrieve Code.
  3. Type the generated code into the treadmill and press Enter.
Helpful note: If the generated code starts with a zero, enter all six digits exactly as shown.

Code Tool

Retrieve the code to enter on the treadmill

Enter the six-digit number shown in the NordicTrack popup, then type the generated code manually on the treadmill.

4

Install NordicFTMS

After the unlock code is accepted, you can open the Android desktop and install NordicFTMS directly from the treadmill.

  1. After entering the code, the treadmill should drop you onto the tablet desktop.
  2. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to reveal the app drawer.
  3. Open Browser.
  4. In the browser, go to https://powertread.fit/nordicftms.
  5. The NordicFTMS APK should download automatically.
  6. Tap the downloaded file to run the application.
  7. If Android asks you to confirm the install, allow it and continue.
  8. NordicFTMS should launch in the background and then return you to the iFIT dashboard automatically.
Open this exact address on the treadmill: https://powertread.fit/nordicftms
Helpful note: This is a one-time setup. Once NordicFTMS is installed, you should not need to repeat these steps unless the treadmill is reset.
5

Verify Bluetooth pairing

The treadmill should now behave like a standard FTMS Bluetooth treadmill so it can pair with PowerTread and other third-party apps.

  1. Open PowerTread or another FTMS-compatible app on your phone or tablet.
  2. Start scanning for nearby treadmills.
  3. Confirm that the treadmill appears as NordicFTMS on the pairing screen.
  4. Pair it and verify that it behaves like a normal FTMS Bluetooth peripheral.
Helpful note: If NordicFTMS does not appear immediately, wait 10 to 15 seconds and scan again. A reboot of the treadmill can also help after the initial install.

More With NordicFTMS

After setup, pairing screens in PowerTread and other FTMS-compatible apps should show NordicFTMS as the treadmill name. If that does not happen, repeat the install once or contact [email protected].

NordicFTMS can also be used outside PowerTread. For example, it can let you connect a NordicTrack treadmill to Zwift and enable incline control by emulating a Wahoo KICKR RUN device over WiFi / DirectConnect.

NordicFTMS is free and open source, and it should work with any third-party running app that supports the FTMS standard. You can learn more or follow the project on GitHub. If it ends up being useful and you would like to support ongoing development, feel free to buy me a coffee 🙂
